Handmade Holidays: Paper Crush

collage is obsessed with pretty papers. At all three locations we have a large selection of 12"x12" patterned papers, which are perfect for holiday cards!

These two cards were made from just two sheets of paper! Most of the patterned papers are double sided, making it easy to add visual dimension to your cards.

You can use paper to make ornaments too! Learn how to make these paper baubles here.

We hope you're enjoying the holiday season. See you soon!

Homemade Holidays: Painting Fabric

The holiday season is our favorite! There are always so many reasons to make for friends & family, but during this time of year we are extra motivated to show the love through making! It's also a great time of year to try new crafts you've been wondering about. Gift making is a perfect excuse for experimenting. Here are some of our favorite hand painted & printed gift ideas:

This beautifully complicated pattern is deceptively easy to make!
Supplies: Cotton Scarf & Tumble Dye

Sneaker Painting
Did you know Jacquard textile paints work on leather and canvas? Take a boring canvas shoe and turn it into  a statement piece. This is also a great gift for yourself: who doesn't need some revitalized sneakers?

Blockwallah Stamped Handkerchief

Blockwallah stamps work so well on fabric. Using Jacquard Textile Paint, these hand made stamps make beautiful prints that will last through washing. Jacquard Paint hardly effects the hand of the fabric, so your printed items stay super soft.

Forever Inspired: Stamp, Stencil, Paint

Need more project ideas for painting fabric and more? Stamp, Stencil, Paint by local designer Anna Joyce is an endless source of ideas and inspiration. She includes 23 projects with refreshingly clear instruction and beautifully composed step by step photos. Projects include: Crosshatch Zipper Pouch, Handmade Wrapping Paper (pictured above), Brushstroke Kitchen Linens, and more.

See you soon.

Pumpkin Decorating

Carving pumpkins is definitely fun, but very messy! Painting is just as fun, but there is no pumpkin goo to deal with.

We had to get in on the Donald Trumpkin trend, so our first pumpkin is in the likeness of Trump himself.
Supplies: Pencil, Acrylic Paint, Thin Round Brush, Raffia, Hot Glue

With a pencil, lightly sketch out a face.

Start adding paint over your sketch lines. We just used black, but you could definitely add more color!

Gather your rafia and hot glue it to the top of the pumpkin, in comb over Trump style.

Enjoy your very own Trumpkin!

If free handing isn't your thing, stenciling pumpkins (or squash!) is also an option. You may remember we posted a DIY stencil treat bag a couple weeks back. Well here's another chance to use that Halloween stencil!

Supplies: tape, stencil, stencil brush and acrylic paint

Secure the stencil with tape. If you stencil is very detailed you may want to use repositionable spray mount for a more stable bond.

Using a dabbing motion, apply the paint.

When you're finished painting, immediately remove the stencil (and wash it!).

If you want to a more graphic option, you can use Permapaque Pens to outline your stencil.

If you want to decorate a pumpkin, but don't feel like carving or painting we have stick on rhinestones available!

Have fun decorating!

DIY Halloween Treat Bags!

Are you having a Halloween Party this year and want to have the coolest treat bags ever? Well you're in luck because we have a DIY just for you!

Supplies:
1) Stencil
2) Stencil Brush
3) Jacquard Textile Paint
4) Tape
5) Muslin Bag
6) Piece of Cardboard that fits in your bag

First, secure your stencil to your bag. This can be done with washi tape or repositionable spray mount if you have a more complicated stencil. Then put a piece of cardboard or thick paper in the bag to avoid the paint getting on the back of your bag.

When stenciling it's important to not have gobs of paint on your brush. After you dip your brush in paint, take off excess by dabbing a piece of paper towel. If you have too much paint on your brush it can seep under the stencil and make your print messy!

With a dabbing motion, start filling in your stencil. Don't sweep the brush from side to side, this can also cause the paint to go where you don't want it to.

After the paint has dried. iron the bag to heat set the paint.

If you love the bags, but aren't feeling crafty we sell them pre-stenciled for $3 each. They are currently stocked at Division and will be in the other stores soon!

See you soon!
